Settlement
Indefinite Leave to Remain as the spouse of a settled person is a common route to settlement in the UK. If you arrived under the Rules in place before 9 July 2012, the minimum residence requirement is 2 years in the partner category. If you arrived after that date, you become eligible once you have completed 5 years’ continuous residence in the partner category.
Other routes include long residence — 10 years’ continuous, lawful residence through a combination of categories — and the Tier 2 route, available after 5 years’ continuous residence under a Tier 2 visa.
